Meet GROBBY!

GROBBY Six Bricks is a 30 cm tall, fun, lovable and lively character whose name derives from a combination of each of the first letters of the colours of the bricks.

Green

Red

Orange

Blue (light)

Blue (dark)

Yellow

When you combine the bricks into a stack in this colour order/sequence, then you are said to have made a GROBBY stack. See the brick stack on Grobby’s back; that’s a GROBBY stack.

When children are not using their bricks in an activity, then they store them in a clicked-together GROBBY stack. This makes for easy classroom management, and all bricks are accounted for at all times. It is easy for a child to see if there is a brick missing from his / her stack.

When first introducing children to Grobby, perhaps begin with the ‘Grobby Six Bricks – Farmyard Adventure’ storybook, followed by the 40 comprehension questions at the back of the book.

In this book, the children will come to know the character Grobby and get a sense of his personality and character etc. The colour of his clothes connects to the brick colours and also have a deeper level of meaning -

  • Green – represents Grobby the environmentalist, who loves nature, the outdoors, lives sustainably, promotes the SDGs, for example, we see him looking at insects in the back garden.
  • Red – represents active Grobby, energetic, running around, having fun, etc., e.g. climbing trees behind the playground.
  • Orange – represents creative Grobby, a problem solver who loves to invent and make things and possesses a STEAM brain……… e.g. in the story, he makes a water raft.
  • Light Blue & Dark Blue: represents shades of feelings, perhaps feeling good & well or maybe even a bit down, that’s O.K. too. The shades of blue on both sleeves also represent how Grobby likes to make good decisions and weigh up the pros & cons of any situation before coming to a decision, for example, how to rescue and save poor Henrietta.
  • Yellow – represents how Grobby engages each day in a happy, joyful, playful, fun-loving way, for example he rides about the fields on Steve, the farm alpaca. We should all try to live joyfully!

Grobby has much to teach us!

The story has many layers, which is also a great jumping-in point for children at Six Bricks.

Additionally, Grobby Six Bricks goes about his daily activities with a GROBBY stack of bricks on his back. He uses his stack of Six Bricks in all sorts of fun ways, and teachers can, too,  to:

Not forgetting, the Six Bricks Software & and accompanying Activity Mats Teacher Guide – which connects you to the 35+ tools of the FREE-to-use Six Bricks Interactive Whiteboard software, with detailed classroom practice guidance for each item (A4 / 50 Pages / 35+ Tools)
